this article appears in a recent issue of FASHION THEORY: The Journal of Dress, Body and Culture that focused on sustainability. it was written by the lovely sarah scaturro. sarah is a textile conservator at the cooper-hewitt (check out their current felt exhibit and don't miss this). she is also involved in fashion projects, the great journal i wish came out more frequently.
the article looks at its subject through a premise posited by technology theorist andrew feenberg, who advocates for small, but effective, "democratic rationalizations" of technology to achieve positive change. (he also wrote this, which should be on the neo-green reading list).
so, i am happy that my project, fiftyRX3, was characterized in the article as one of the more subversive democratic rationalizations in that it addressed the disconnect between fashion's inherent consumerism and a perceived sustainable ideal and is described as, "a highly successful and timely project."
sarah also puts me in the good company of otto von busch and alex martin and states we, "...are just a few examples of active citizen involvement within the digital domain attacking the fashion status quo."
thanks sarah.
